Ms. Julie Dunn, local researcher and member of Portsmouth’s Hill House Museum Board, will give a presentation about decorations that were prominent during Lafayette’s 1825 Farewell Tour visit to the United States, such as signs, luminaries, and transparencies. She will also address how Lafayette’s visit started the souvenir industry in the United States.
Ms. Julie Dunn Biography:
Ms. Julie Dunn is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. She is a board member, docent, and research archivist at The Hill House Museum in Portsmouth’s historic Olde Towne district. She has a background in medical transcription, elementary literacy training, musical performance, and volunteering in her community. Her passion for local history encompasses all of Hampton Roads. Ms. Dunn is excited to share new research and artifacts connecting Hill House ancestors with General Lafayette’s historic visit in 1824/1825.
