SUMMARY:Suffolk Art Gallery: “Marisa Stratton: Context Collapse”
DESCRIPTION:The Suffolk Art Gallery presents “Marisa Stratton: Context Collapse,” opening Saturday, August 2, from 4 to 6 PM at a free reception. Join us for the first look at the show, meet the artist, and enjoy complimentary food and beverages.\nAbout the exhibition:The Suffolk Art Gallery presents an in-person ‘feed’ of painted portraits by Marisa Stratton for your consumption and delight. Stratton invites us to spend time examining each of the subjects she has captured from her social media channels with care. No longer moments to be devoured, Stratton slows our experience of images on TikTok, Instagram, FaceTime, and Zoom, encouraging us to engage deeper with the people we look at and to consider our relationship to them as viewers.\nMarisa Stratton is a painter whose work explores contemporary portraiture in the context of screens. Marisa holds a BFA in Communication Arts with a minor in Painting + Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. She recently held a solo exhibition at MoCA Arlington, “You Will Never Be Forgotten” and has been included in exhibitions at Hamiltonian Artists (Washington DC), Virginia MoCA (Virginia Beach, VA) and the Delaware Contemporary (Wilmington, DE). Stratton teaches painting as an Adjunct Lecturer at Georgetown University.\n“Marisa Stratton: Context Collapse” will be on view at the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave., Suffolk, August 2, through September 5. Visitors of all ages are welcome and encouraged to visit. The Suffolk Art Gallery is free to the public and open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM, Sundays from 1 to 5 PM, and closed on Mondays.\nFor more information, contact (757) 514-7250 or parksemail@suffolkva.us\n
