    This invitational exhibit highlights the art of functionality and will be on display through October 18. From handmade textile works, to hanging ceramic birdfeeders and turned wooden vessels, all works on display serve a functional purpose. Artists include Tom Wessells, Sam Warren, Ed Francis, Phil Guilfoyle, Linda Bunch, Beth Netts, and Angelia Armstrong.

  2. Exhibit: "Beauty Beneath The Bark" by 2019 Tidewater Turners of Virginia

    Tidewater Turners is a non-profit organization, a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners, located in Norfolk. The purpose of the organization is to promote the advancement of woodturning skills for members and other interested persons through an open exchange of knowledge, ideas and information. They also strive to increase public awareness of woodturning as a popular craft and as an art form. Exhibit sponsored by Davenport & Company.

  4. 2019 Western Tidewater Walk to End Alzheimer's

    September 14, 2019, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM @ YMCA Camp Arrowhead

    The Walk to End Alzeimer's is the world's largest event to raise awareness for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. The 2019 Western Tidewater Walk will take place on September 14, 2019, at YMCA Camp Arrowhead in Suffolk. Check-in will begin at 8:30am, followed by the opening ceremony at 9:40am. The walk will begin at 10am; it will include a three-mile route, and there will be a one-mile option as well.

  6. Recycling Drive & Tire Amnesty Day

    Need to recycle and not sure where to go? You're in luck - Keep Suffolk Beautiful is hosting a Recycling Drive & Tire Amnesty Day on Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 9am-1pm, in the parking lot of the downtown Suffolk Lowe's. Materials to be recycled include: tires (22" diameter or less, without rims), CFL bulbs, batteries, platic #1 and #2, household hazardous waste (includes home cleaning products, automotive products, indoor pesticides, and paint. Limit 5 gallons of liquid), eye glasses and hearing aids, plastic bags, glass containers, document shredding (max of 3 brown grocery bags), gently used clothing, electronics, and cans/cardboard. The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore will be collecting food, and denim will be collected to support the Suffolk Public Library Denim Drive.

    If you enjoy The Moth Radio Hour or Netflix’s Mortified, you don’t want to miss out. Share your true story at this live, amateur storytelling hour centered around your most inspiring or horrifying school-related story. Stories must be true, five minutes or less, and be told without notes. Time slots are limited so claim yours by registering through the library’s online calendar. Don’t want to share a story?
