Exhibit: Off to War2018-12-12T10:00:00Join the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society as they present "Off to War," featuring memorabilia and honors from various wars throughout history, including the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the American Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. We must never forget the sacrifices that were made, and this exhibit honors those sacrifices and the people who made them. You do not want to miss this extensive exhibit!

Exhibit of Excellence: Suffolk Student Art 20192019-02-05T10:00:00This juried exhibition features the best artwork by Suffolk's 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Barbara Hennig-Loomis will be this year's juror. Hennig-Loomis’ education in the arts is varied, and continuing. She holds a degree in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University and continued her art history graduate studies as a Fulbright Fellow in Germany. She also completed a Master of Fine Art in Visual Studies. She has worked as a writer, editor, a museum administrator, teacher and illustrator. In addition to her studio work, Hennig-Loomis currently teaches at Tidewater Community College. There is $625 in awards offered, including $200 Best in Show (given in honor of Dana Adams), $150 First Place, $100 Second Place and $75 Third Place and Honorable Mentions. The exhibit is sponsored in part by a grant from the Suffolk Fine Arts Commission.

6th Annual Heartbeat Gala: "Harlem Nights" Renaissance2019-02-09T18:00:00In recognition of American Heart Month and National Go Red for Women, Men & Youth Day, we present the sixth year celebration of the Annual Heartbeat Gala, held this year at Hub 757, in the prestigious area of Harbour View in Suffolk, VA, on Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 6-11pm. This annual elegant is an event to support local survivors/fighters of heart disease to bring awareness of the heart healthy lives campaign. The purpose is to raise awareness and recognition of heart disease to our local community. The event has continued over the years to benefit educational programs, survivors & patients in need of monetary resources, college scholarships and health awareness events. The Heartbeat Gala is a red dress and black tie affair that organizes the community at large and heart disease advocates together for a night of heart health education, networking, unity, and entertainment.

Beef, Bourbon, and Blues2019-02-09T18:00:00The Arthritis Foundation is partnering with Committee Chair Todd Rauchenberger, at Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Inc., to host an inaugural Beef, Bourbon, and Blues event with proceeds benefiting the Arthritis Foundation. This event will feature local beef and bourbon/whiskey pairings, a dessert and bourbon cocktail pairing, and blues music from the Billy Joe Trio at a venue showcasing the local beauty of Hampton Roads. There will be four pairing stations and a wine/beer bar for non-bourbon/whiskey drinkers. Our bourbon focus is on the three ways Americans make bourbon; Wheat, Corn, and Rye. A tasting glass will be provided and there will be an opportunity to bid on auction items. Enjoy the spectacular views on the upper balcony and a cigar. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
