    Join the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society as they present "Off to War," featuring memorabilia and honors from various wars throughout history, including the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the American Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. We must never forget the sacrifices that were made, and this exhibit honors those sacrifices and the people who made them. You do not want to miss this extensive exhibit!

  2. The Staszesky-Tobin Show

    The Suffolk Art Gallery's winter exhibit features the work of John Tobin and Al Staszesky. Tobin's work, both ceramic and 2-D, draws influence from daily life, tongue-in-cheek humor, and turn of phrase. His style is distinct and vibrant, with influences from surrealism. Staszesky's style is vibrant and draws from post-impressionism styles, including fauvism and cubism.

  3. Suffolk Sister Cities International Exhibit: "Global Citizens: Resilient Communities"

    Sister Cities International aims to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time. Each year, the Young Artists and Authors Showcase encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork and literature. This year’s theme, "Global Citizens: Resilient Communities," asks students to explore the concept of resiliency while highlighting citizen diplomacy and the creative ways that we create peace through people-to-people interaction.

  4. Old School Movies at the Center: Clueless

    January 24, 2019, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts

    The Suffolk Division of Tourism is going "old school" as they present a series of modern classic films at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. On Thursday, January 24, 2019, visit the world of Beverly Hills when we show Clueless, beginning at 7pm. This cult classic spawned many iconic lines and made a star of Alicia Silverstone. Admission is free and open to the public; however a suggested donation of $2 or non-perishable food item is appreciated.   5. American Girl Program: "Meet Kirsten Larson"

    Meet Kirsten Larson! Kirsten was born in Sweden in 1845 and given a new life in America working on the frontier in Minnesota. She is quite sensitive towards animals and children, and makes friends easily. A very active child, Kirsten can be shy, hates being trapped inside small spaces, and has a stubborn streak that sometimes gets her in trouble. Unfamiliar things frighten her. Kirsten is helpful, caring, and thoughtful, often taking on more responsibility without complaint. She is always thinking of ways to make her family happy. Kirsten likes to try new things, like sewing and exploring, and has a knack for making money. Her favorite color is pink.

  6. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 33rd Annual Art Show & Sale

    January 26, 2019, 10:00 AM - February 3, 2019, 4:00 PM @ Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

    The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Art Show and Sale attracts artists and art connoisseurs throughout Hampton Roads. The show takes place the last week in January through the first week in February. Admission is free, and the community is welcome. The NSA Art Show and Sale boasts a wonderful diversity of media from over 150 artists, including paintings and multimedia works of art. Prices range from $25 to $7,000. While the works of art beautifully adorn the Lower School hallways, teachers also use the Art Show and Sale as an opportunity to incorporate the art and artists’ displays into their curriculum.     Join us as we kick off our year in technology! This event will feature areas that will highlight different technologies and how they impact our lives. The Code & Cogs zone will feature programs and demonstrations about coding, robotics, and more. In the Green Scene you'll learn all about the latest in green technologies that are helping to improve our environment. Stop by the Gaming Zone to play some video games and learn about gaming technologies and more. Feeling creative? Then stop by the Make & Create area, where you can use technologies to make art, craft, and more.

This hit film was so popular it made stars of Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams and eventually spawned a successful Broadway musical.
