Barbara Hennig-Loomis is a German-born artist living in Cape Charles, Virginia. She holds a BFA in Art History, an MFA in Visual Studies and studied as a Fulbright Fellow in Germany. In addition to being a working artist, she is currently an instructor at Tidewater Community College and conducts workshops at various regional institutions. She is a portraitist at heart, enjoying the collaborative nature of that process.
Hennig-Loomis says, "It is nigh on impossible to depict a human being without invoking a sense of narrative; we are all ensconced in stories of one sort or another. Whether or not those narratives are reliable is a wholly different matter." In this exhibit, she has used a variety of models for her work, including a dancer, professional models, acquaintances, and family members. She pulls from mythology, religion, and life experiences to give context for her paintings and drawings.
