This Juried Exhibition is open to all visual artists working in any medium. The exhibition typically features approximately 100 works of art by artists from the Hampton Roads region and beyond. Over $2,400 in awards will be given, including a $500 First Prize and the opportunity for a one-person exhibit at the Suffolk Art Gallery in 2020.

The Greater Lanexa Studio Tour is a group of 20 juried artists from the Lanexa, Virginia area. Once a year they open their studios to the public for a weekend tour. This marks the first time they will be exhibiting their work at the SCCA galleries. The group will showcase work in a variety of mediums including paintings, woodwork, sculpture, glass and jewelry. The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This four-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. The 2019 Holiday Season officially begins in Suffolk on Friday, November 22, with the Suffolk Grand Illumination Ceremony at Market Park in Downtown Suffolk. The event rings in the holidays with the park opening at 6pm.
Watch the 32' tree light up when the switch is flipped at 6:15pm, illuminating Suffolk for the holiday season. Be there when Santa arrives in style (around 6:15 pm), and enjoy seasonal music courtesy of local choirs.
Be sure to bring along your camera to capture your children's smiling faces as they whisper their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus. Stick around to purchase tasty treats from local vendors, as your children decorate their letter to Santa and visit the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum. There will also be horse and carriage rides available for purchase!
